A word from our CEO
In this edition of sa move you’ll find a snapshot of our 2022–23 Annual Report – summing up a massive 12 months for RAA and our members.
We’re breaking a lot of records when it comes to what we’re delivering for our 805,000 members.
RAA remains South Australia’s largest personal lines insurer, with around 628,000 homes and vehicles insured across the state.
On the back of some extreme weather events, including the storms in November last year and the Murray River floods, we incurred a record $525 million in insurance claims.
That means we’re paying out more to members than ever before. We also attended more than 344,000 roadside assistance call-outs to help keep our members moving.
While roadside assistance and insurance remain our foundation, we’re branching out to deliver even more in the home, on the road and in the skies.
As electricity prices skyrocketed, more members turned to RAA to provide affordable energy solutions.
Our home solar and battery team installed 14,000 solar panels – 75 per cent more than the previous year – and twice as much home battery capacity.
Members with a home solar and battery solution are now saving around $2685 per year based on an average household using 25kWh per day.
RAA Travel helped book a record 40,000 holidays – surpassing our pre-COVID levels.
A record number accessed our More for Members program, with around 358,000 members saving a total of $31.3 million.
In the last 12 months we also focussed on improving our digital offerings and experience for members – which has been a priority of mine.
"A record number accessed our More for Members program, with around 358,000 members saving a total of $31.3 million."
We’ve updated the RAA app, expanded the number of activities you can conduct online from the comfort of your living room, and streamlined the digital experience when you need to contact us online to make a claim or roadside call-out.
We’ve achieved all this and more in the face of a challenging financial environment, particularly within the insurance industry.
The increase in extreme weather events has affected our reinsurance costs, while supply chain issues and inflationary pressures have also impacted our insurance business and cost to fix members’ cars and homes.
Despite these challenges, we’re set up for a strong 12 months ahead.
We’re confident our travel and energy businesses will continue to go from strength to strength.
We’re also focussing on giving you greater choice when you take out a product with us. The first step in this journey came with the launch of our new Standard Comprehensive car insurance, which offers a good level of cover and the option to add on benefits that suit you.
We look forward to bringing you more options like these in the coming months, so you and your family can access the level of cover you need. We’re looking into different ways we can reward and recognise you, our members, for your loyalty and deliver more savings and great experiences.
It would also be remiss of me not to mention the ongoing rollout of South Australia’s first border-to-border electric vehicle charging network – RAA Charge.
In partnership with the State Government, we’re well over the halfway mark and on track to complete the rollout of the 140-site network next year.
I’m really excited about the next 12 months and what we have planned for you, our members, as we continue to grow and transform our organisation.
It’s never been a better time to be a member of RAA.
