Unreal Uluru

I remember the first time I saw Uluru. I was on a flight as it landed at Ayers Rock Airport, and the giant red behemoth rose up from the surrounding flat earth. It was one of those moments where your mouth drops open and there's a chorus of oohs and aahs. Passengers stared out of the window mesmerised by the iconic view. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

While Uluru is the most well-known landmark in the Red Centre, this region has plenty of other places to visit. Explore the stunning landscapes and culturally significant locations that you'll find in the heart of the Australian desert.

Further afield, Sri Lanka on the south-eastern tip of the Indian subcontinent could be the next place you add to your must-visit list.

This South Asian country will surprise you with its diversity, from bustling cities and coastal havens to national parks bursting with wildlife. Find out more here.

Staying in SA? We have you covered with long-weekend escapes to the Barossa, Flinders Ranges and the Riverland.

We have plenty of road safety and motoring content this edition. All cars have indicators, but many people misuse them… or don't use them at all. Refresh your road-rule knowledge and read up on five laws you must know when using your indicators.

Whether you're a pedestrian or motorist, you probably use crossings daily, but are you aware of the rules? Take our crossings quiz to see if your knowledge is up to scratch.

Never too old to learn

I thoroughly enjoy your quizzes in the magazine and find them very enlightening. I have been driving for more than 60 years and have always tried to keep up to date with changes to driving rules.

Previously, I borrowed my grandchildren's driving rules books but after they received their full licence, I gave them up.

Now, I keep up to date with your quizzes and articles, such as 'Avoid the fatal five' and 'Stay in line'. I enjoy doing these puzzles, and I usually get them right – apart from the odd one.

You're never too old to learn, and it's wise to keep abreast of traffic rules if you wish to safely drive on the road with the ever-increasing traffic.

Thank you RAA for these quizzes to keep me up to date with the road rules, and the enjoyment and knowledge they bring to me.

My everlasting battery

The battery in our CX-5 diesel Mazda finally gave up after being a bit sluggish during last year's cold weather. The RAA Road Service team arrived within an hour and quickly and efficiently installed a new battery, which was great.

The remarkable thing about the old battery (also installed by RAA) was that it lasted seven years and three months. Either we were just lucky, or RAA supply excellent batteries. Thanks RAA.

My eye-catching passenger

After reading the pets in seatbelts story in the spring 2025 edition of sa move, I remembered this anecdote. In the 1970s, Crosby's [store at Gawler] was closing and my wife wanted a mannequin. So, I put the mannequin in the passenger's seat with the seatbelt on.

She only had a hat on and as I was driving down the main street in Gawler, I got a lot of strange looks. Not just one look, but three or four from most pedestrians and other drivers.
