Slow down, please!
When road safety is mentioned, we generally think about motorists behind the wheel or passengers. Vulnerable road users, like cyclists and motorbike riders, might come to mind. But, do we consider people working on the road every day? Just to name a few, there are CFS volunteers attending crashes, traffic management workers directing vehicles while roadworks are being undertaken, and of course, RAA Road Service Patrols helping people stuck on the roadside. Following the introduction of a 25km/h speed limit around road service vehicles displaying yellow flashing lights, we’ve spoken to people who work on the roadside daily.
With vulnerable road users in mind, this edition’s road safety quiz focuses on sharing the road. Take the quiz and see if you know the rules about sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

There’s plenty of travel content to get you inspired as the weather warms up. We go behind the scenes at the new Monarto Safari Resort. SA’s newest accommodation offering provides visitors with breathtaking views of the largest safari experience outside of Africa and the many animals that call the park home.
Further afield, we head north to Arnhem Land to learn about one of the world’s oldest cultures. The 12-night tour from Cairns to Darwin takes visitors through some of Australia’s most remote regions, with fishing, visits to sacred rock-art galleries and wildlife watching on the agenda.
Staying home this spring and planning to do some gardening? We have you covered with our spring gardening feature.
You may have noticed the latest sa move magazine has arrived in your mailbox in different packaging. We’re now using compostable packaging, which can go in your compost or green bin.
Happy reading.

I noticed the cover of the sa move winter 2025 magazine features an image of Second Valley.
You might be interested to see this painting by John White, my great grandfather, showing an almost identical view.
Painted in 1898, it is one of his many accomplished landscape pictures of locations around South Australia including Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and the Flinders.

Road car-ma
Some 48 years ago, my driving instructor taught me, in my very first lesson, what he regarded as the most important driving rule. The unwritten rule was: do not embarrass another driver.
It means that if you pull out in front of another driver, cut in or overtake another car and the other driver has to slow down, brake, swerve or take some other action, you have embarrassed them and broken this rule.
It seems this unwritten rule isn’t taught these days. I still remember this rule 48 years after learning it and still apply it to my driving.

A bee-autiful friendship
Here’s something you don’t see every day. I’m a long-time member of RAA and have been an avid reader of sa move – formerly sa motor – for many years.
Recently, I was sitting on my outdoor garden seat, flicking through the winter 2025 edition, when your advertising icon (Trev) was visited by one of his friends from my garden.
He stayed just long enough for me to grab my phone and photograph him. What are the chances?
