Editor's note & your letters
Nominate your risky road
For three years I worked in the Riverland and would drive up and down the Sturt Highway every weekend to come home to Adelaide. Every dip, bend and pothole along the highway was imprinted in my memory. Imagine if you could memorise every road and intersection across the state; RAA’s Road Safety team might be able to do just that.
They travel thousands of kilometres every year checking both rural and metropolitan roads and intersections to see how safety can be improved on South Australian roads. To do this, they need your help. This year’s Risky Roads survey is now open, and you can nominate a road or intersection you think is the riskiest in SA. Go behind the scenes and see what the Road Safety team do once you’ve submitted your riskiest road or intersection.
This edition is jam-packed with other informative and entertaining content. Test your lane knowledge with our latest road rules quiz – some of the answers may surprise you.

The best of both worlds
I got my first sa move magazine and I’m pleased to say it’s very informative. I want to share my change in thinking. I’ve jumped on board the electric revolution, purchasing a MG4 XPower (pictured alongside my Harley Sportster 1250S). They’re polar opposites, but I find both fun and exciting, so there’s room in the world for both EVs and more traditional fuel. I would dearly like to invest in an electric bike, but the cost and range anxiety is prohibitive. I have insured the MG4 with RAA as I found the quote to be flexible and very competitive, so much appreciated.

RAA comes out on top
After much deliberation, we purchased a new car – a Honda HR-V hybrid. It comes with lots of features, and eight years of roadside assist. No way will we ditch our RAA Road Service though. When you make the comparison, RAA comes out on top. Plus, all the other extras RAA offers. Before you decide you don’t require your RAA Road Service, do your homework, and think again.

Consequences for distracted drivers
If a driver gets caught using a mobile phone, impound the phone for a month. That would surely be a bigger deterrent than a fine and points alone. They’ll lose their phone, contacts and won’t be able to make calls. That would hurt, no matter how wealthy a person is. I’m passionate about this. A lady using a phone while driving hit my mother’s car. My mother lost an eye and it ruined her health. She had to give up driving.

sa move's big win
In September, sa move magazine was named Association or Member Organisation Publication of the Year at the Mumbrella Publish Awards held in Sydney.
Up against member publications such as the Law Society Journal and the Australian Physiotherapy Association’s Physiotherapy InMotion, sa move “edged out the competition with its superior design and style”.
The jury were also impressed that the magazine went beyond the print edition, offering a digital version and website for RAA members and the broader community. According to the jury, “the digital extension goes well beyond the physical edition offering ample reader value, variety and freshness".
Managing Editor for sa move, Emma Harrington, says it’s an honour to be the only South Australian-based publication to be shortlisted for the national awards.
“The win is testament to the magazine’s high-quality content and design,” Emma says. “We hope RAA members enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy creating it.”
